    Just to let everyone know.

    1. I added the word CATEGORY to the category base and TAG to the Tag based and saved it using the default settings.

    2. Then I choose my permalink settings /index.php/mypostsdontwork and everything is in working order.

This is on a windows windows btw. It might just solve others problems as well!

I did what OTTO said to do here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/189041?replies=11 while crossing my fingers and it paid off! Thanks!

WOOT! I concur: That worked for me: I'm on IIS, I use Permalinks/Common Settings "Numeric" for a long time and this was broken on upgrade to 2.6. OTTO's fix works -- but man is that wierd!!!

This is a known bug, which will be fixed in future revisions.

This solution does NOT work on my 2.7 RC1 install on Windows server. None of the options other than default (?p=...) work. Does someone know of a solution in 2.7 RC1?

This also fails to work with wp 2.7 (all the way back to 2.5, in fact) with Apache 2.2 and FreeBSD 6 and OS X. It used to work. I have a couple of other glitches as well: the UI never shows the active theme and while I have a couple of Pages working, I can't add anymore.

this thread is marked 'resolved' but I don't think it is.
Otto42 links to a support ticket about a likewise problem in WP 2.6 and fixed in 2.6.1.
But this thread is about permalinks not working correctly in WP 2.7.1.

the workaround, using index.php by giving a category and tag base, doesn't solve it.

.htaccess isn't the problem either (writable, in the correct spot and written correctly)

My guess is that apache 2.2.11 on a Windows 2003 server is a bad combination for WordPress 2.7.1 permalinks.

what worked for me (I posted this on another thread) was to go into the database and just blow away the auto-generated rewrite rules. It fixed all the problems I was having, from the UI not picking up the right theme to the permalinks not working and pages not being modifiable.

    I am running Apache/2.2.6 (Unix) PHP/5.2.4 and mySQL 5.0.51. WP 2.7.1.

When I switch to permalinks (tried all kids of combinations) it works fine in Firefox but not in IE browsers. Using IE (6,7,8) the page will start to render, but then spits out a 404 error (after you can see the proper page for a split second).

The server error logs don't show any problems.

I don't believe it's a server problem since Firefox works fine.

I've tried the category / tag base naming (which seems like it is an IIS fix more than anything) without any luck.

I'm definitely not an expert in server configurations, but I can't understand this behavior...

Has anybody seen anything like this, or have any suggestions???

    help..... please.
