I have an application of Slideshow where I need to FTP / overwrite the original image in the meadia library frequently. I could I suppose upload replacement images for all the different sizes that WP creates during the original image upload but would prefer not to have to do so.

So far, my testing seems to indicate that the slideshow always uses the original image, even for small screen sizes. This works perfectly for me and I just would like confirmation that the other image sizes will not be used by slideshow.

That’s correct, at the moment the slideshow doesn’t use the other (smaller) images WordPress automatically creates.

However, within the next couple of versions there will be an option to set the slideshow to use a different image size. This update won’t affect you much, as the default will remain the original image.
