• Hi everybody,

I am in the process of moving my site from one web host to another. My live site still is on the old host while I develop the new site. Once the development is finished, I will move the domain name over to the new site. I was able to import all my posts and content successfully through phpMyAdmin, and everything is looking good on the new site. I have uploaded all my media to the new host via FTP, but the media also is still live on the old host.

Currently the image URLs in my posts still point to the old host (via the domain name, since I didn’t replace anything when I imported them). That’s fine, and I won’t change it, because they’ll just point correctly to the same files on the new host after the domain name switches over. I have noticed that the URLs for the files in the media gallery, however, point to the files that I uploaded to the new host (which is a domain name I won’t be using with the final site).

I currently have my WordPress URL and Site URL set as the temporary address at the new host. Once I’m ready to bring the new site live and change the domain name to point to the new host, I plan to change the WordPress URL and Site URL to be my correct domain name. When I do that, will the links to the images in the media gallery switch over to match that address?

    Short version:

Basically, what I’m asking is this: Does the address used in the media gallery image links (such as the URLs used to pull images for in-post galleries and for post attachments) rely on the WordPress URL setting (from the General Settings admin page)?

I just want to make sure I know how this all works before I switch it over and break something.

    Thanks!
