I have a feeling I got some bad advice.
I pulled down an old website to redesign it at a later date.

Was told I only needed the html files:
    cgi bin
    wp-admin
    wp-includes
    wp-content
    the root folder files

I went to restore it today. New host, new wordpress install and then when I uploaded these file it didnt work. I just get 500 internal server error.

Then someone mentioned I need a mysql database for the site to work.
Id not heard of that until now and have no idea where Id find it.

All I really need is a screenshot of the old website.
But Id LOVE it to be restored and working, but is this possible with the files I have?

    Thanks!

    wordpress doesnt use cgi-bin

all the files you have you can delete, only wp-content/uploads folder will contain old site images, all data without database (or xml export dump) are lost

Without a database backup, I'm afraid you no longer have a copy of your old site. :-(

If the site was online, you may be able to find cached versions of the site via Google cache - http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57569535-285/quickly-access-google-cached-pages-in-chrome/

That might at least recover some content?

Thank you all. Great suggestion WPyogi, but its been too long and they are nowhere to be found.

    A harsh lesson for me.

So sorry to hear that - I wish we had a magic wand to fix things like this :(.
