   I have tried installing wordpress 2.8, 2.8.2, and 2.9-rare and all of them leave me with the widgets not working i have taken thesis off and reinstalled again about 3 times for eachplatform and the widgets will not work inany of them. I even try that tab in the upper right hand corner like someone else posted somewhere, to no avail. Could there be a file that is somehow screwing this up or whats going on ...?

   Make sure that the theme you are using supports dynamic sidebars.

   Activate the Default theme and see if you can add widgets then -- if you can, your chosen theme doesn't support dynamic sidebars and you need to either widgetize it or choose a different one.
