Widgets wont move (16 posts)

    Hey there,

I have done quite a bit of researching and troubleshooting on my own to try to resolve this issue and while I have a general understanding of programming I haven't exactly extensively used PhP.

    My problem:
Widgets won't move at all and are generally non-interactive aside from the ability to change the cursor image when hovering over them. This is on a fresh install with nothing done to the site aside from changing the Hello World post.

    My Troubleshooting:
-Verified that I am running the most current java version
-Verified that I am running the most current version of WP
    -Did a re-install of WP
-Did a clear of the database and reload again on a current install
    -Removed all plugins
-Tried on the twentyeleven and twentyten theme (both did not work)
-Loaded a new theme LightWord -- still did not work
-Attempted on different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer) did not work
-Verified the most current version of each browser and retest
-Scanned through forums of changing js libraries in certain areas (did not do because I could not find the exact code, and I understand if I change something that shouldn't be I could make the ENTIRE site not work)

If anyone has any tips for me that would be greatly appreciated

On the widgets page upper right corner, screen options, turn on accessibility mode. Can you add widgets that way?

Actually when I attempt to interact with anything including Screen options or help It adds that into the URL as code but nothing happens. I suspect that it is an issue with some sort of coding of the site, I'm just not sure where exactly to fix it.

So to answer your question that is also unable to be interacted with.

    What is the URL?

When I enter the widgets part of the admin page:
    http://everlastinggaming/wp-admin/widgets.php

If I click on the screen options:
    http://everlastinggaming/wp-admin/widgets.php#screen-options-wrap

If I click the help button:
    http://everlastinggaming/wp-admin/widgets.php#contextual-help-wrap

If I attempt to move any widgets or click the other buttons on the page there is no change in the URL

I did also want to note:

I just went through the menu bar set-up which uses the same basic functions (i believe) as the widget setup and it worked on the menu page.

This might help to narrow things down

Did you key in those links? All are missing the .com

The help page should be http://www.everlastinggaming.com/wp-admin/widgets.php?widgets-access=off

    Did a re-install of WP

Was this done through a go-daddy script?

    It was through go-daddy,

after the first installation using go-daddy script

I did a full manual transfer of all of the files one-by-one (which took hours by the way lol)

    It still didn't work.

I corrected them no problem but I can't get into the backend anyway.

Hmmm. That last url would take you to the widgets screen also.

Did you use a script for install?

I might have figured out the problem... you got my curious about my hosting server....

They are hosting on PhP version 5.2 ... do you think this could cause an issue with one page function not working as it appears wordpress requests 5.2.4?

I went through the install process that wp has posted so I'm assuming so since it had me log into my site/admin and then "go through the install process"

I don't know. I would think they would be up-to-date.

They have a PhP version 5.3 that I can update my hosting server to which I will do to see if it resolves the issue... if it doesn't i'll probably just roll it back

Looks like you have done about everything to debug. What it all points to is something wrong in the install. I know you did do a reinstall but if the problem is on multiple computers with multiple browsers then the only thing left is the install or server.

Sometimes installs go wrong more than once. Karma? I don't know. Delete the wp-admin folder and the wp-includes folder. DO NOT touch the wp-content folder. Upload a fresh, unzipped copy of those folders (http://wordpress.org/download/) to the server. Use an ftp program like fileZilla or FireFTP where there is a log of files uploaded (http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_FileZilla). Use text not binary.
