• Hello. Looking for a genius here.

I use uploaded WordPress 3 to run my site, lucaslabrador.net. Everything is fine, EXCEPT I cannot get the program to accept my widgets. I am told that the template I have made with Artisteer, and uploaded, does not natively accept widgets, and I have to use a ‘custom menu’. The result is that the LINKS are in default unformatted style.

I have tried redoing and uploading the theme, and doing another thing, same thing. So, is not upload corruption, or just that theme.

    Any ideas?

    Justin

  • Can you use widgets with the TwentyTen theme?

    Hello Esmi,

Don’t know what you mean, friend. I like my own theme! Is TwentyTen and off-the-peg one?

There must be some reason why, despite widgets being in the design of the theme they just don’t copy over when the theme is uploaded. Grrr….

Hoping for a flash of inspiration,

    Justin

I’m not suggesting you switch permanently – just that you temporarily try using the 2010 them that came with WP 3.0 so you can confirm whether the problem is within your current theme or elsewhere.

    Hello Esmi,

OK, checked it, in preview, and the formatting is all over the place with picture not allowing text wrapping. Widgets do appear on the right, though it does not show my ones in the preview as they are necessarily in a custom field, due to the initial problem mentioned above.

I am thinking I am going to have to get into the html and mess with that or something.

imho, a possible approach would be to ediot the theme to allow the use of widgets in the sidebar.

there is some docu to check:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/dynamic_sidebar
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_sidebar
    http://automattic.com/code/widgets/themes/

and related stuff you can find on the web.

if you have worked through it and are still unsure, you could come back with more focussed and detailed wuestions; maybe posting the code of your sidebar file and functions.php.

alchymyth, thanks. I will have to check in Artisteer to see if there is something wrong there, as there is no reason why widgets should not be allowed, I did design all the buttons etc.
