• I installed the sidebar plugin, but I’m still now sure how to get widgets working. The netflix wdiget I tried and the weather widget all require me to insert some php code. Where does that code go?

And isnt there a simpler way?

  • It’s not too bad – one small bit of php in the sidebar and one small file in the theme directory.

thanks for the reply. i tried setting up the weather widget. but inserting code doesnt have much of an affect. i did download and install the “sidebar” plugin so i can drag and drop items in and out of the sidebar.

i’m also not sure where exactly the weather code would go. please help.

reemas: What are you talking about? You have to be a lot more clear, because nothing you’re saying makes any sense.

To use a widget plugin, you activate the plugin, then go to the Manage->Sidebar widgets page, then drag and drop the widget where you want it to be in the sidebar and optionally configure the widget. That’s it. End of work to do. No PHP editing whatsoever.

Also, to use widgets at all, you do have to have:
    1. A widget capable theme, and
    2. The base widgets plugin installed and activated.

Ok sorry. Basically, I did this:
Downloaded and installed the Sidebar, Netflix, and Weather plug-ins. Then I went to the plugins page (on the backend admin site) and activated all the plugins.

Now when I click on Presentation, I see the option for “Sidebar widgets.” I dragged what I wanted to the active column, but DO NOT see the Weather or Netflix boxes to drag. Currently I dragged calendar, pages, links, and google search, as you can see on my blog at: blog.reemasville.com

Also when I clicked on plug-ins I was able to set up the Netflix plugin, but I just dont know how to get it to appear on the sidebar! Hope you can help.

P.S. As per your instructions, I do not have the Manage > Sidebar page. I only have the Sidebar under Presentation.

My mistake, I meant the Presentation page.

I’m not sure what you mean by “set up” a plugin there, but the only thing you have to do to make a widget plugin appear as being available for the sidebar is to activate the plugin. If that doesn’t do it, then there’s something wrong with the plugin and you should talk to the plugin author.
