Widgetized Theme – Can I add "next page"/"previous page" navigation?

My theme is fully widgetized and I would love to have next page/previous page navigation. I asked a friend who is more knowledgeable about the guts of these things than I am – she says my main page is all widgets so there’s no loop.
However, I have a friend who’s theme is widgetized and she has next page navigation.
I feel like I’m missing something. But that’s ok I always feel like I’m missing something when it comes to figuring these things out.
