   I use the Pool Theme (http://www.lamateporunyogur.net/pool/) but with a wordpress.com blog and the widgets work just fine.

   When I switched over to hosting my own site, it is now telling me that the theme isn’t widget-aware. How do I make it widget aware? I would really appreciate any help!!

   Make sure you're using the latest version of the theme:
   http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/pool

   That version does appear to be widget capable.
