   i edited by child theme's style.css file to include

   .one-column #page {
   max-width: 980px;
   min-width: 980px;

   but it's not working - it still looks to be about 690 wide.

   here's the page i'm working on:

   Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work.
   http://getfirebug.com/

   There isn't a #page div in that Page.
