Support » Networking WordPress » Why the redirects?

  • To start, I have a membership site that runs WP Multiste with the front end at “example.com/main” and the membership site at “example.com/main/members”. I have recently been trying to figure out why my SEO has been crap since installing WP, and after using a few tools, it became apparent that my root URL, example.com/main was redirecting to example.com/main/ with a “/” at the end of it. I wouldn’t be to concerned, but there is already one redirect from example.com -> example.com/main, since I could figure out no other way of setting the home page to my root URL. Is there a way to disallow a redirect with the “/”? What’s worse is that my main page, “example.com/main” isn’t even indexed! Please help!

On a side note, when I installed WP, I was unable to install in the root directory. Is it at all possible to set it my front page to my root?

Yes, but that is better to do BEFORE you activate Multisite, because after means you goof all your URLs.

Your SEO isn’t crap because of the folder situation though, that’s somethgin Google doesn’t care about so long as you have the right redirects. How are you redirecting to main?
