Is it just a error, or is this the way it is supposed to be?

You can paste text or HTML markup into a Text widget. Or is that not what you meant?

There is also a plugin that will let you insert PHP code in a widget, as well as text and HTML

Esmi, I ment when you for ex want to edit, copy from from widget to another. It won`t let me mark text and copy it. Neither cut text. Have to use backslash. ??

I've just managed to cut, copy and paste markup back and forth between 2 text widgets without any problem using FF3 on WinXP.

I don't have a Vista machine to hand right now but I'd be really surprised if that was the cause. I'd be more inclined to look at:

    1. the plugins you're currently running.

    2. the theme (is this a problem in all themes?)

    3. the applications you're running at the same time on Vista

It sounds like there's a conflict somewhere...

Try deactivating all of your plugins and see if that helps.

    Any solutions?
Its very tricky having to write each code again and again not being able to copy and paste. Why isnt this like in a ordinary editor?

Does anyone else have it this way?

the solution is to disable your plugins then check to see if its fixed. then you re-enable your plugins ONE by ONE until you find the problem. Just like you were already told.

And this is already been covered elsewhere - there are LOTS of plugins that are causing issues with the widgets page.

    I know whooami.
I just tried again, deactivated all 9 plugins I got.
But I still can`t markup html or cut or delete code/text inside a text widget.

    WHAT COULD BE THE REASON?

kjagen: Nobody else has this problem, apparently. I can copy and paste in widget boxes just fine. So you need to figure out what it is about your particular setup that's causing this issue.

I thought that problem was resolved in 2.8, I used to have that issue in 2.6 and 2.7 but was fixed with 2.8 for me.

Yeah, it was a glitch on how the old widget system worked. The new system is so much easier now too.

Your other text widgets will not be lost if you bring in a new text widget.

I have the same issue (unable to highlight text) in widgets. If I really need to, I use FF and it works fine. I've had the problem in Vista, XP, IE7 and 8 with serveral versions of WP but have just learned to live with it as everything works fine.

I figure it is with my IE configeration perhaps but for me, having a work-around, puts the issue in a very low priority I will probably never get to.

EDIT: After reading thee17 I went to the site I have upgraded and I can highlight text in widgets! Great. Now I have to upgrade the other site.

Upgraded to 2.8? And then it was fine?

    I need to upgrade.

Deactivate all plugins, copy all php files?
I don`t know how to backup the database!? But is that necesary?

You can check with you host on backing up the DB. My is backed up every day. Yes, I deactivated all plugins.

It was an upgrade to 2.8. I did not use the auto upgrade. I downloaded 2.8 and then FTP'd the wp-includes and wp-admin. I also FTP'd the root files except config.php which is not in the upgrade anyway.

All the information is here, http://wordpress.org/download/

I just found this entry on trac describing the problem. It's fixed in WordPress 2.8:
