Why doesn't register_default_backgrounds exist?

I am working on setting up a website for a client and I wanted to provide them with several custom backgrounds they could use without having to upload their own, just like you can define custom headers to load automatically…

I guess I could make this into a plug, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t already exist.

Thoughts?

Should I just write my own plugin to add this functionality?
