[resolved] [closed] Why doesn't Expound Look like the example? (24 posts)

I am new to WordPress and just installed/activated Expound. I expected it to look like the picture shown on the theme page, with boxes for content and the overall layout.
But it looks nothing like this on my site. In fact, my site looks the same as before I activated Expound.
What am I supposed to do to get it to look like what I thought I installed? Is there a guide for this sort of thing?
    Thanks,
    Mike Palmer

Are you able to provide a link to the site?

In the readme.txt file, Konstantin actually has a quick little FAQ about the featured posts. The reason it may not look like the exact could be the amount of 'sticky/featured' posts you have.

I thought this at first as well, but the fix is quite simple. When adding a new post, scroll down to the bottom right of the page. You'll see an "add featured image" section. Click it, add the image you want, and you're done. If that doesn't help, let me know.

Mike, if your site design hasn't changed upon activation of the new theme, you might be experiencing a caching issue. If your site *does* look like the Expound theme except for a few things like featured images, then as Jasonire mentioned, you have to add featured images to posts: https://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Thumbnails

    Hope that helps!

Hi I was delighted to see the same question-- I'm also new as a wordpress site creator (though I have another wordpress site http://www.parentearth.com of which I'm co-founder and editor) and want my site to appear as the "expound magazine" example does - ie. rectangle with video (or still) on left side of home page; rectangle of text on the right; with 4-5 small photos/videos appearing at the base of the home page with short text. but it is just straight text?!? why don't the photos and videos appear without clicking? i tried choosing "add featured image" to no avail.

    pls advise! thanks!!

Hello? do I have to buy a plug in to see the thumbnail of the youtube videos i've created when uploaded to this wordpress site in the theme expound?

Hi there. You *do not* need to buy anything :) I have just visited your site and you've got posts with featured images, so everything seems to work well. If you don't see the featured posts is a row side by side, your screen is probably too narrow to fit them, so Expound is showing them underneath each other.

thank you Konstantin -- I did figure it out before I heard from you. I do think it's amazing that you respond to questions so quickly (it's one of the reasons I chose your theme).

May I ask you another question? Is there a way to add subheaders to the main navigation bar? I.e. I currently have a button "meditations" on the main nav bar -- but would like people to be able to choose from a sub menu of meditations (e.g. 1 minute; 2 minute; body scan). I'm trying a plug in now.

    :)

You don't need a plugin to do that. Expound supports multiple levels for navigation, up to three in fact. In your Appearance - Menus screen, when building your menu, just drag the items a little bit to the right to have them indent within a top-level menu item. You can learn more here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

    Hope that helps!

Костя, добрый день. У меня такой же затык как у товарища выше. Вэб сайт отображается лентой, а не красивыми thumbnails in rows and preview text of the article.

    Hi,
I have the same question, why the theme I've installed doesn't look like the example. I post some images and text and it just look like a regular blogger post. I check the appearance options and I didn't find many options.
Maybe I must upgrade to the payed theme???

    Anyone knows??

    groshiba, hi!

You just need to make your posts "sticky" (5 posts) so they will organize as one on top and 4 in rows.
    Had same thing,)

I've created some posts, I've added "featured images," and I've made them sticky, but so far all I see is a series of posts one after another like every other blog on the planet. I installed this theme because of the screenshot, but I have no idea how to get that. Is that "featured posts" page in the screenshot another page or the blog its self? If it's another page, how on earth do I get it to display? There should be some more instructions on how to do this...

If anyone's wondering, my site is ttmaher.com and I'm having the same problem, as described above.

@dignan17: it doesn't look like you have a front page set in your Reading settings. Go to Settings - Reading and set it to display your list of posts on the home page or on a custom page you create - that should show the featured posts block.

Hi, I'm really quite happy with the Expound look&feel. Great job. One thing that keeps bugging me is that the messages page does not show thumbnail images of the images in the post. Is there any way to fix this?
(My website is 14december2013, the messages page is under "cadeautips" http://14december2013.com/cadeautips/ ('hints for presents' - we'll be using in for our honeymoon and decided against a 'buy us a beer' link :-)).)

@rocinante14 - please start a new thread - this one is marked resolved and your question is not the same as this one. You can do so here:

You really need to create your own thread to discuss that
