Why do I have to register the blog on WP?

    I installed WP on my subdomain. (blog.mysite.com)
    Now, I guess I have to register my site with WP. It asks me if I want to Map the DNS to my own subdomain. ($13)
    Vs. mapping it to .wordpress.
    Can anyone explain what the advantages are, so I can decide which way to host it?

    Is this on self hosted wordpress or wordpress.com

    It must be self-hosted. I didn’t know you could host it on WP itself! It is definitely hosted on my own Domain and I want it to stay there.

    If you have a domain name of your own and host account then you do not have to do anything.
