Why Dashboard and not main site on Login? (6 posts)

Why do all my user logins get taken to the DASHBOARD page and not the main website?

There is a link to go to the main site, but logically, I would expect a user to be taken there as soon as they log in.

Is there something I need to change to do this?

    Can be found at:

    Thanks

Why would they need to log in unless they're going to the dashboard to update or modify their profile or some such thing? Otherwise they could just go directly to your site.

If you want them to go elsewhere after logging in, you need to specify where. On the link you give them to go to wp-login.php, add a redirect_to parameter specifying where they should be going after they login.

    Like this:
    http://example.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://example.com/whatever/

    Simple.

    Thanks Otto42.

All anyone sees is a small LOGIN window with my WP website.
Maybe I have the link incorrect?

I understand what you're saying, I just don't know how to do it. Been using WP for 24 hours . . . .

I may have the wrong software for what I'm trying to do.

I'm trying to do something like this site:-

You should decide what you want...
In the other thread of yours you are talking about users submitting short stories for publishing. Not letting them into the admin how would they do it?

EDIT. And that's a normal WP post - why are you overcomplicating it?

I think I see how this works. Users go to the dashboard to do "whatever" and then go the main site to see it "in action"

    Is that the general idea?

Bear in mind I'm using WP for only 24 hours now

    Basically, that's the general idea.

Bear in mind I'm using WP for only 24 hours now

That's fine, but then you should first play/work a little bit with it, read the Docs to learn the basic features before asking questions.
