why comment notifications from my host e mail address? (7 posts)

Until now, I notice that all of my comment e mail notifications are sent to me with the commenters e mail address in the 'From' field. But recently, I've been getting e mail with my own host e mail address in the 'From' field. The e mail contains the contents of a new comment. Until recently this has never happened & I can't remember ever configuring anything within WP using my host e mail.

These rogue comments also avoid my SK2 & related plugins which should be forcing first time commenters into moderation. Would anyone have any ideas why I'm receiving notifications in this weird format?

I've asked BlueHost why this might be happening & they're going to get back to me with an answer (huh!).

  2. This is happening because the emails are being sent from the server and it is perfectly normal. The sudden change may be due to a change in your server configuration by your hosting provider.

I'll be calling them back to check on that. What seems weird to me is that some comment notification e mails today came in the normal format with the commenter's e mail address in the 'From' field & one came in the other format I mentioned using my host e mail in the 'From' field. I wonder why it does that?

  4. Perhaps those comments did not post with an email? Do you require your commentators to enter their email addresses?

One of the 2 e mail notifications DID have the commenter's e mail address.

But I noticed something about the other e mail that I hadn't noticed before. It was not a comment notification, it was an email directly to me using the WP Contact form. I thought that e mails using the contact form had to have the sender's e mail...otherwise how would you be able to reply to them?

Richard were you able to solve this? I just switched to bluehost and noticed the same thing.

I am on bluehost and I also noticed this same change, but I noticed it since I upgraded to 2.0.
