Why aren’t tag cloud styles controlled by CSS?

    I recently incorporated tag cloud widgets into a couple of blogs. I edited wp-includes/category-template.php to display the sizes I preferred to the default sizes. A couple of weeks later, I upgraded WP to 2.8.4 and immediately noticed the tag cloud sizes of the original were back.

    Why can’t these sizes be designated as standard classes (i.e., .smallest,.biggest) in the template file, which would allow us to maintain style info in the stylesheet?
