Why are my tags being stripped?

    So for one of my pages, I typing in a paragraph of content. When I get to the end of the paragraph, I press ENTER (not SHIFT-ENTER) and begin typing a new separate paragraph.

    After I save my page, the two paragraphs have been combined into one paragraph.

    Why is this? Can I turn this off? How does WordPress expect you to be able to type out paragraphs or content if they are going to strip out the tags and combine it all every time?
