Support » Fixing WordPress » Why are backslashes appearing before apostrophes?

  • For some reason, whenever someone types an apostrophe in a comment, no matter what template I am using, it appears with a backslash before it:

Why would this be? I can’t find any setting to adjust this sort of behavior.

    Thanks for any help.

  • using 2.0.3? upgrade to 2.0.4.

surely this problem is not due to the version. i can’t imagine that it would have been a program bug not caught or fixed until 2.0.4. there must be another reason..

Either upgrade or install the 2.0.3 Tuneup plugin. Or, I guess, fix it yourself if you don’t like those…

thanks.. it would appear as though the “Are you sure?” dialog introduced the slashes, and Tuneup should take care of that.

How do I active this plugin after I install it?

    From http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Installing_Plugins

    Activate the Plugin:

    1. Access the Plugin Panel in your Admin Panel
    2. Scroll down through the list of Plugins to find the newly installed Plugin (if not visible, start from the beginning to check to see if you followed the instructions properly and uploaded the file correctly).
    3. Click on the Activate link to turn the Plugin on.

that bug was introduced in 2.0.3 (I think) and was fixed in 2.0.4. there are other security reasons to upgrade to 2.0.4 as well.
