I just started working on an already up and running website (it is using 2.6.2). I'd like to upgrade and even perhaps change the theme. However, I cannot figure out where the actual files for the site or even where the site is being hosted. All I know is that it is not one of the wordpress.COM free sites... My site shows the option of loading new themes (but I don't know where the site is being hosted to even upload the docs).
Is there anything I can do, short of starting a whole new site? (Which may present its own problems since I do not know who is hosting the site now).

So whoever owns/owned it only gave you username and password to WP account and did not give you FTP, database, webhost usernames and passwords? In any case, you could check where the site is by looking up WHOIS information.

I suggest solving the webhosting ID problem first. Get all the info you need from the owner.

Yep. I'm trying to do more than just 'maintain' and add new content to the site.
How exactly can I look up the WHOIS information?
Thing is, even if find out name of webhost at WHOIS http://www.whois.net/ or http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp or just Google WHOIS for other search, they're not likely to give you the usernames and passwords just because you have access to the WP installation on their server.
Ask the owner of the WP install for all the information that you need. I cannot imagine why that would be hard for you if owner of the WP site trusts you enough to give you permission to "maintain" or "add new content to the site"

I will try to get that info! It's just a Friday afternoon here and since I don't know who exactly knows the information, it might be next week before I figure it out. (This site is a 'baby brother' completely separate from the main one and has been nearly ignored in terms of upkeep). Thanks again!

Try the contact person who gave you access info to the WP account in the first place. Then he/she refer you to whomever has the info you need.

Marcus, how you access the website? What is the www address?
Btw, dont wanna troll but this topic really doesnt belong to "wp advanced" section, mods you should move it when you got a sec, it's making a trash here. No offence Marcus :)
