white screen after new install (13 posts)

I am completely new to wordpress. I have manually installed 3.0.1 which seemed to go OK and I can get to the dashboard at http://incaweb.co.uk/wp-admin/index.php

When I go to to http://incaweb.co.uk I get white page. I have two posts and when I use the View Post button in the Edit Post screen I get white screen again.

There are no errors in the FTP so presumably all the files were uploaded correctly.

This seems to be a fairly common and fundamental problem but none of the previous posts have a resolution

  2. Try switching to the default theme (i.e. twentyten) or disabling all plugins.

What have you tried, since you mention other posts? While they may not be marked resolved, many have suggestions within.

    Current theme is twentyten

None of the other posts suggest a clear course of action - there has been mention of permalinks and htaccess files.

    No active plugins

  5. Okay. What's in your .htaccess? :)

Were your plugins active beforehand? if so, you may need to rename the plugins folder to plugins-old and force kill 'em.

    HTACCESS has

    # BEGIN WordPress

    # END WordPress

There were no active plugins before

  7. Do you have permalinks on? If so, turn them off for now.

You may need to review http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions and make sure everything's set up.

Also, are there any errors in your server's error log?

How do I turn off permalinks - there is no 'off' in the permalink settings?

I don't think I have access to any logs as this is a hosted server

I changed the permissions for index.php in the root and the themes directory from 664 to 666 and now I get the following error:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@incaweb.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Changed them back and now I get the white page again

  11. Also, are there any errors in your server's error log?

    Are there?

And ... Who is your webhost? You may not have a good version of PHP installed.

They are a local company and as I said I don't think I can get server logs from my account.

I think I might delete everything and start over using their Fantastico installer - the reason I didn't use it before was that it installs 3.0 and i thought i might as well get latest 3.0.1

  13. If you have fantastico, odds are you have cpanel, right? That has a way to view error logs within it. Or ask your host if you can see error logs.

I highly doubt fantastico will help, though, since you did the install with no error sunlit you went to the main site. And fantastico is ... Behind.
