   i dont know which version my wordpress is can you help me find out

   You will see it in your admin dashboard, just below the "Right Now" box

   Edit: it just occurred to me that this may be only for the newer versions. I don't recall how the admin panel looked in earlier versions. You can also try to "view source" of your blog on your browser. Unless you have a plugin hiding the version, it will be in the header section.

   i see that but thats the theme name i want the version

   If you can get into your admin section, it should be listed in the footer. If you can't get into admin, check version.php in the wp-includes folder via FTP.

   edit: the version should be in the header. Look for <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.8.x" />

   It just tells you the theme name, but not the version number below? Maybe it was at the very top of the admin dashboard in earlier versions. Try the "view source" on your browser when you are looking at your blog. Or post your URL, so we can help you find it.

    This is for self-hosted WP blogs.

    I believe they always run the latest version, currently 2.8.6
