• Folks,

Am a non-techie looking ofr theme/framwwork selection help.

I have spent more than one month seleting which platform/them eshould i use.

I have even bought Hybrid Framework, Genesis and even Striking framwwork. 🙁 But none has all the features i am looking for.

I need buddypress, wiki plugin, Q&A plugin and so on….. So mine is more of a colloborative project.

I have all these plugins but all of these together do not work with any of the platform i mentioned above.

Then i shifted to twenttythen default theme, there all plugins work, but you see, there are almost no theme options.

My questions is, should i stick with twentyten?

    How is TwentyEleven?

THe reason i think default theme is best because i think all plugins out there work with WP default themes. NO?

    Any help plz?

  • The thing is, for specific situations such as yours… you will most likely need to learn to do some customizations.

You won’t find any particular theme or framework which does everything you need out of the box.

I prefer to stick with the default twentyten (soon I will switch to twentyeleven) and make a custom child theme

But the frameworks are great too. You need to decide what gets you closest to your starting point.

What doesn’t work about your plugins with the frameworks? Do they fail, or just not display correctly?

Themes may need some customization to display plugins properly as well.

I doubt I answered your questions well, but just trying to give you some stuff to consider

    Thanks Voodoo.

You were right in many things you said.

When i installed many plugins with most of thoese frameworks, few plugins loose their functionality or some conflicts Plus CSS distorts.
So for Nontechies like me, its a Nightmare to everytime modify CSS after installing a new plugin.

Which is why, i think Twentyten or Twentyeleven are the good option, i assume most of the plugins are optimised for them. So all the plugins will work with these default themes NO?

I am sorry, but i am still confused and shoooting in dark. 🙁

    Which way to go?

Well, either way your in a bit of a bind without the knowledge to fix the problems yourself.

If you truly need a certain look, and functionality, you may need a pro.

Or you can continue your search.

Each of the framework sites should have their own support forum, especially if you are a paying customer. They may be able to give you more specific help on your compatibility issues.

A lot of us volunteers don’t have the specialized knowledge you need. Personally, I am very familiar with twentyten, but have never touched those frameworks, so I have no idea how they work.
