I'm looking at the WordPress Global Translator Plugin http://www.nothing2hide.net/blog/2006/08/20/wordpress-global-translator-plugin/
and WordPress Translate http://www.scotthough.com/wordpress-translate/
and trying to decide what to use. I have the first one running at http://tinyurl.com/vt5b8 and some of the languages with different alphabets mess up the functionality. (I also don't like the look of the buttons but I can change that)
Anyone put both plugins through the paces?

Don't use any of them, because automatic translation is one of the worsted internet technology on earth. 80% of the time, you don't understand what is written.
You have to use the most basic grammar with vocabulary that only one meaning in order to get a chance to be understood (and I a really mean "understood", not just reading a correct sentence).
If you learned another language than english, you will be horrified by these tools.
IMHO, it will never help you to get a bigger worldwide audience, on the contrary, because people will not understand the messy language they are reading.

Thanks for your opinion.
For those who do like having the option, anyone do a full comparison?
Actually PH is 100% right!
No machine translation works. One of the plugins above uses Google, the other babelfish.
There is no good and better - just bad and worse :)

I came here looking for a translator, too. I'm managing a community blog and many of the members' first language is not English.
Having used translators to read their blogs, I agree that auto translators are not great. However, they can give you the gist and that's really all I need.
From my limited experience babelfish seems to be better than Google.
