I just lost a pitch for an Arts Organization, because they felt that WordPress was only suitable for personal sites and blogs.
I have heard that the NY Times and CNN both use WordPress as a CMS.
Any other big websites?
Thanks
Peter

Thousands. This will get you started.

Mike.
Here's a conference that was focused on business use of WordPress (vs. blogging; note I hosted the conference with a partner):
Here's where you can find the WordPress Showcase:
From that list here are a few I selected for you to show them, none of which are blogs or personal sites (I built ~80% of the first one):
Hope these help.

Thanks Mike.
Some of the biggie corporations are not listed... are you aware of any at the same level as NYT & CNN?
Cheers
@searchen - I avoided sites like that because I avoided blogs since that was what you claimed your client didn't like, although I did include Wall Street Journal:
Besides, why does an Arts Org need to know that a major media outlet is using WordPress; their use-cases are vastly different. Many that I listed are likely more similar to their needs, such as this one:
If you want news orgs, how about Reuters?. They are certainly not tiny or low traffic:
More news sites here:
Hope this helps.

Rereading your question, it seems like you wanted someone to point out the CNN and NYTimes websites that run WordPress? They'd be easy enough to find, but here you go:
Hope this helps.

They're listed but some of them are using WordPress.COM (which means they're hosted by WP) so they're not listed there. Also EW uses it for their blogs.
Pull the biggest and best from these two tags, you'll get a lot of surprising sources (The British PM is in there too somewhere).

Thank you both for these links... I think I have enough ammo... people (clients) can be so short-sighted!
I know WP would have been perfect for the solution. I guess they had to find an excuse to use someone else. My price was right, and my portfolio good!
Thanks again!
Peter
MikeSchinkel's posts were caught as spam for the links, I think ;)
