I am new to blogging and am going through the WordPress lessons. I've gotten to the part under Setting Up Your Site where it reads "Consider making your first plugin installation the Codex and Forum Searcher Plugin." When I click on this underlined text it takes me to another web page which then directs me to another page which indicates a download button. When I click on that download button I get a directory that I don't understand and I don't know what to do with it.
Could someone walk me through this? Is downloading this plugin important? The lessons recommend doing this before addressing the graphic issues of my site.
Thank you,
Withlight
I get a page not found error whenever I find a link to this plugin.

I found it, but can't use it as it covers up my 'log out' and 'profile' links in the top right corner.

It take me to the url : http://asymptomatic.net/2005/07/20/1765/codex-searcher/
but shows post not found.
I cannot find the plugin to install.

Check this out -- THE answer:
http://blog.jalenack.com/archives/codex-search-plugin/
The download is there and these instructions:
"Installation: Very simple. Upload to your plugins folder (/wp-content/plugins/), then activate the plugin in your admin panel. That’s all!"
