When I initially activated stats plugin into my blog - it was working fine. Then I'm not sure what happened but whenever I tried to look at blog stats, it keeps saying API key is invalid. But it doesn't tell me where to go to enter the API key in again.
Any ideas where I can find the place to enter the API key in again?
Try deactivating the plugin from the Plugins page and then activating it again. Click on where it says "WordPress.com Stats" in the error message and there should be a box to enter in your API key.

In the plugin wordpress.com stats there will be a box to enter the API key..apply your wordpess.com API key over there..

thanks for the help so far!
I just tried deactivating stats and then reactivating it; I entered the API key but then it went to this message;
"The API key "e19414b67698." belongs to the WordPress.com account of "joannacollie". If this is not your account, please re-enter your API key.
(it is my wordpress.com account so I didn't re-enter my API key - however the blog that I am using and referring to is on wordpress.org)
According to the WordPress.com database, this API key is already associated with at least one self-hosted blog. You can add this as a new blog on your WordPress.com account or replace an existing blog and inherit its stats history.
Add new blog to my account
Do this if this blog is new or has never been associated with your API key. This blog will be added to your WordPress.com account."
I'm not sure what to do now - as I said before that I was using the API key before fine and blog stats was working fine.
Any more help would be much appreciated,

Err.. well, it seems pretty obvious. Are you adding this API key to a new blog, or to the same blog that it was before? Click the appropriate button.
This message seems straightforward enough to me:
"You can add this as a new blog on your WordPress.com account or replace an existing blog and inherit its stats history."

the only problem now I've done that is that I can only see my blog stats in wordpress.com.
I would like to be able to see my blog stats for my blog - bestbodytalk.com - in wordpress.org - where my blog lives.
Yes, that's what the Stats plugin does. It enables the stats and it adds them to your own site in the form of a dashboard widget. You'll see them on your site and/or on wordpress.com. You won't see anything here on wordpress.org. That's not possible.
What is the actual problem that you are having?

The actual problem that I am having is that I cant see my blog stats in my blog dashboard, which is self hosted through worpdress.org.
I have to login into my wordpress.com account - which has a different password.
I would like to see my blog stats on my blog dashboard - http://www.bestbodytalk.com.
I don't think I'm being that stupid.
You started a topic asking about where to enter the API key, but now you're saying what your actual support question is, "How do I view my stats on my blog dashboard."
I don't think anyone's being stupid, but your topic of support has changed since you first posted and so the actual/new support question needs to be reiterated.
With that said, if everything got entered correctly (and it seems like it has) there should be a link called 'Blog Stats' under the 'Dashboard' header in your Admin CP.
If you click on it, you should be able to view your stats there, on your dashboard and yes, more than likely, you will have to log in as WP Stats uses WordPress.com's API.
But yes, you should be able to view your stats by clicking on 'Blog Stats' under the 'Dashboard' in your Admin CP.

hmmm, I had the same problem —
I update WP (2.8.3) but it's not the solution
I deactivate / reactivate wp stats, I reenter my api key
I go to the link in the confirmation page (blog/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats)
A new page with a switch form appear -- I select my domain :-)
It's work for me (with slow access)...

I have recently updated my Akismet plugin and now my Blog is asking for an API code. I looked under Profile settings - Personal settings . I don't find it there. Do I need to apply for a new API code ?
Where do I apply for one ?
