   I have searched everywhere for this and cannot locate it. What is it? What does it do? And if I don't have one does that mean that I am imagining I have the sites up and running?

   It must be important because it gets special attention in several installation instructions. but I don't have one!

   site shuold work well with no .htaccess file :) this file is obligated to change Your link to be short and looks well for google.com :D so don't worry :D
