   I recently started using WordPress. I am using a new theme that asked me to use a "custom field". I know what custom fields are and how to use them but when I click on "posts" and "edit", the custom fields section is not there.

   Where is it? I have searched online and cannot find an answer. I am using WordPress 3.1

   when editing posts, click on screen options at the top right of the interface.

   check the Custom Fields checkbox.

   Yep, in the newest version (3.1) it has been hidden by default because it's not needed by most people. Follow fonglh's instructions to make it visible.
