[resolved] Where in the world is my theme?? (8 posts)

I am in the process of switching my WP site to another host, and I exported and imported my files, only to find them in Twenty Ten. I learned that I need to upload my old theme in order to have it with me. So I tried to find it. It's called Photabulous, but nothing i type in brings it up. I've tried the name, the designer's name, Theme Lab, and I went to its web site and found a bunch of tags, but none of them brought up the theme in WordPress. I've only had it a few weeks.

I'm already worried, since I'm assuming that any customizing I did in that theme, will not be uploaded with it, so I have to do that all over. Right?

your theme should be in here:

    /wp-content/themes/

I hate to say this, I feel like an idiot, but what's in front of that, and will it get me to Photabulous, so that I can download it to my new host? I tried to put WordPress.com in front of it along various other combos, but it's not getting me anywhere.
    I am desperate for help.
    Thanks!

but what's in front of that

It depends if your WP is installed in the html or in its own folder.

    OR

I tried both - one gave me a white screen, the other en error 404 message. I am giving up. It's been two days of frustration trying to switch my WP to a different host.

I'll stay where I am and try to publish my files there (Page.ly), but nothing's been easy so far.
I may have more stupid questions coming up.....

    Thank you!

Not sure if I am following this, when you say export and import you likely meant the content?

This would not include any themes or plugins, that is why you get the default twenty ten theme.

To transfer the themes and plugin you would use an FTP client like Filezilla and download the contents of the /wp-content/themes/ and /wp-content/plugins/ folders from the old website to the new website.

If you are not using FTP and only interested in the theme then download the theme from the vendor.

This can then be uploaded from your new website, Admin > Appearance >

    HTH

David, you rescued me from a sleepless night last night! You gave me hope. I don't know how to use FTP, and I have run out of time, so today I was able to get a hold of a professional who could sit down with me and do the necessary few clicks.

    Thank you so much!
