• I am new to WordPress and have inherited a site that is hosted at Host Monster. I see lots of files and folders, but cannot actually locate the code that renders the home page. If I view source from my browser, I see what I want to edit – I just cannot find that page – or any page for that matter. I feel pretty stupid, but please help!

  • More than likely the code is in a file named index.php, but a lot depends on your theme. A link to your site might let someone give more specific help.

That is because wordpress is php script is not like html templates.
Html is a browser language and php is server language so matter of fact what happens is that when a page is called by clicking on link php program creates the page on server from all php files that are in wordpress and connects to database to get data required for the page and than sends the page to browser in html form.

you do not want to go in php files if you do not know the php language is best to just use the program and mostly the editing you may want is the theme and mostly style.css takes care of formatting the pages.

post what you trying to do and will try and guide you to where you need to make the change.
