jer2eydevil88So I am renting my first dedicated unmanaged server and its proving to be a mighty challenge. I am trying to currently setup wordpress for one of my domains and its headache after headache. First it intalls fine then after I turn on gzip I get nothing but white pages. I am able to hit back and turn off gzip but regardless of that setting now being disabled I am forced to wipe out my installation and recopy the files to the directory.
So attempt #2 goes better because my SQL database is intact and wordpress immediately works after setting that up. Next I import a theme and fortunately that works. Now comes the kiss of death... I am using some shitty Mac ftp client and I accidently chmod the whole public html directory to 000 rendering the whole site into a permission denied craphole. I quickly ssh in up myself to root and re-chmod the dir 755 then pray.... to no avail... I get a server 500 error this time...
So here I am re-uploading the wordpress contents praying I don't screw it up to badly...
Although I have a couple of questions.
For some reason when I turn on permalink based on date my installation cannot write to wp-content even though it is chmodded 777. And sometimes I get random error pages inside the admin panel, is there any log of these errors so I can figure out what is causing them?
