    http://dev.mksresidential.com/team/ - we customized the templates substantially. We were attempting to add a slideshow to the site. It was in conflict with another slideshow. Found this out by deactivating plugins, including connections, and reactivating. All went well, except that connections didn't simply turn off and on - the entire plugin was rewritten to default without warning. This caused us about 6 hours of rebuilding the changes we had done. Back up was from a week prior, which helped, but my feeling is that it should not restore to default, but simply turn this back on. I'd like to update to the latest version as I've notices improvements, but am afraid of the same thing happening again. Ideas?

    @suzbinky

    What I can definitely say is that Connections will not ever remove or revert any entries that were entered or revert settings, except for one issue, the role settings will revert to default and that is only on a version change/upgrade. Otherwise you can deactivate/activate as much as you wish and nothing will change.

    Now, reading into what you posted it sounds like you edited core plugin files, I'm guessing the ones in the ../plugins/connections/templates folder and later upgraded to one of the recent updates. This will, as with every other plugin wipe out any edits you made to core plugin files. This will happen no matter the plugin because when WordPress is upgrading a plugin it doesn't know if a file was edited or not, it just deletes the entire plugin and installs the updated version.

    I'm sorry for your loss, but there's nothing I can really do about the way plugin updates are processed by WordPress.
