• Hello !

    I think I finally the plugin I needed, it’s really awesome !

    Two questions though:
    1. Why do I have a “dot” next to the widget ? I don’t have this with the other sidebars: http://awesomescreenshot.com/04e3b97da4 How could I remove it ?

    2. So I created a sidebar (in this case “Eu Switzerland) which I assigned with the tag “EU Switzerland” http://awesomescreenshot.com/0043b97td9
Then, I can find it under the Appearance>Widget section, fine. I put the widgets that I want into. Fine.

So if I understand correctly what your plugin is all about, is that everytime I’ll mark the “Eu Switzerland” tag in an article, it will automatically generates the sidebar. Right ?

Because I removed this tag from the article to try, and the sidebar was still here.

What I would like to do is have an automatically generated sidebar, depending on which tag I include. We have more than 500 articles, and I don’t want to add them manually, every time, every article.

I hope you can help me.

Thanks and again, congrats for this plugin !

Thank you for your kind words.

    1. Are you using the display_ca_sidebar code in your theme, or are the dots displayed even when using the Handles merge/replace?

    2. Yes, if you add a specific tag to a condition group, then the sidebar will be displayed with content that has that tag.

What are the settings for your “EU Switzerland Sidebar”? not the “- Eu Switzerland” which you have attached screenshots of already.

    Hey Joachim,

    Thank you for your answer.

    1. This is solved now, it was due to a conflict between previously-done sidebars and newly-done with your plugin, it’s all good now thank you.

    2. My problem is the following, I’ll try to be clear with an example:

    – I have created a sidebar A which includes the category A, so it means that whenever an article is categorized with category A, sidebar A will display. I have created another sidebar B with category B as an option. My problem is that I have articles that are categorized with categories A AND B at the same time, for editorial reasons. So whenever this happens, the sidebars merge and I have two sidebars (from top to bottom), with repeated widgets that display.
So… what I did is the following: I created a sidebar AB (that takes into account an article that is categorized with category A and category B together), and it works. My problem is now, when I have an article with ONLY category A, it displays the sidebar AB and not the sidebar with category A only.

So it works for the condition when I have two categories but when only one of those categories is ticked, the sidebar AB is still displayed.

Hope you can help me with this.

    Best regards,

When two sidebars want to replace the same sidebar under the same conditions, they will gracefully merge together. I suggest that you take a look at the handle “Forced replace” which avoids this behaviour. So for sidebar A and B respectively, select the Forced replace handle in the sidebar editor.

    Hello again,

I must do something wrong cause it still does NOT work.

    – So, I have the sidebar AB, assigned to the articles that will have A and B as categories (two categories): this sidebar has 9 widgets.

    – I have sidebar B, assigned to category B: this one has 5 widgets.

When I have an article with A/B category, it works, it displays the 9 widgets.

When I have an article ONLY with B category, it also displays the 9 widgets, where it should display the 5.

    Settings

A/B sidebar setting is “forced replace” / “Main sidebar”

B sidebar setting is “replace” / “Main sidebar”

I hope you can success where I failed. Thank you.

What happens if you set handle to “Forced replace” for sidebar B too?

    Thread Starter avonburg

    (@avonburg)

So as suggested by you, I now have:

A/B sidebar setting is “forced replace” / “Main sidebar”

B sidebar setting is “forced replace” / “Main sidebar”

Result: it brings sidebar AB for both articles:

    – The article with AB category
    – The article with A category.

    Any clue ?

    Thank you.

So, sidebar A, sidebar B and sidebar AB should all have handle “forced replace”.
Then, assuring that A and B has higher priority than AB (and therefore displayed), their “Order” option should be higher than AB’s.
Default is 0, so it should be sufficient to increment it to 1 for A and B.

    Does this resolve the problem?

    Hey again,

    There are only TWO sidebars.

    1. One is Sidebar A (linked to category A)

    2. The other one is sidebar AB (just named it like this for the example), which is linked to category A and category B.

So what should I do then in this configuration ?

    Plugin Author Joachim Jensen

    (@intoxstudio)

Alright, only sidebar A should then have “order” with value 1, and sidebar AB should have “order” with value 0.

    (@avonburg)

It doesn’t work, even with what you’re suggesting.

The Sidebar AB displays for both articles.

Is it possible for you to create an admin account for jv [at] intox.dk, then I will take a look at it asap.
