Why is blog.dir is really created for? .... Is it only for uploaded media Can't we name the folder as "child.site"?
How does multi-site works?
I had enabled the multisite but the CSS is not working at first. It was link to blog.dir/sitename/twenty/.../style.css .... so could not find it. And now its worst, now when i go to http://www.........com/sitename , it says page not found.
From my view i should messes up with .htaccess, did i ?

Yes, it's for uploaded media.
Can't we name the folder as "child.site"?
Not unless you're very, very, very clever about how to use WordPress. You can, of course, but given your questions, I would strongly urge you NOT to screw around with it.
Basic rule: Unless you think you know better than the developers, leave it alone :)

Probably. Did you remember to correctly REPLACE your .htaccess with the content provided by setup?
