Not sure which version. How do you tell?

I just took over my blog. It being handled in the background and now I'm on my own.

So, when someone gives you your widget code for the widget you want from them, what do you do with it?

Sorry, I'm new to this WP stuff and making a mess because I don't know what I'm doing frightens me.

To begin, may want to look at some of the articles in the docs if you're just getting started as admin:

As for widgets, they are Plugins. Might want to read about Managing_Plugins: Upload the plugin to your plugins folder, then activate via WP Admin -> Plugins menu.

After activating the widget plugin, go WP Admin -> Presentation -> Widgets to position the widget in your sidebar.

Using widgets requires a widget-enabled theme. Most good ones are these days, but if you don't have a Presentation->Widgets menu, that's why.
