Hey wordpress, let me start off by saying any advice or tips would be massively appreciated.

Basically I want to create a community website to teach my students, the main features I want the site to have are; login, user profile, ability for users to write & share blogs posts, and finally for other users in or outside of the community to view, comment and rate the blog posts... can this be done? The blog posts will not contain any images or video, it's going to be text only so would ideally want something quite easy on the eye... We are a non-profit and our budget isn't very big so any help we can get would be awesome. Thanks in advance :)

Pretty much any theme will be able to do what you want. Do you have a domain name and host yet?

Ok that reassuring. So does it work like you get a theme, then add plugins to achieve the functionality you want? When you add a plug in do you have render the theme you have to incorporate it?

I got a domain and hosting this AM...

This should give you some basic info / help:

You may not need to add any plug-ins as most of what you describe is already built-in to WP.

But you might want to also consider WordPress.COM -- which are hosted WP sites - they are much less work on the back-end and harder to mess up! You don't have as much flexibility for customizing but there are lots of built-in options (some are paid upgrades). You can get more info here:
