Try setting the wp-content and uploads directories to 0777 permissions. If that doesn't work, then a workaround may be to manually create those directories in uploads. The 2009/01 will hold Jan uploads. If that works, then you may want to go ahead and create more for the upcoming months. 2009/02, 2009/03, etc.

    Thanks.
I created folders 2009/01 but didnt work. Then I changed settings to 776 and tried to upload an image which I downloaded from freedigitalphotos.net

It messed up everything. I cannot even access my wordpress admin.

Change the settings back to what they were.

Doesnt help - actually I applied settings to all files and subdirectories....so cant revert. I guess I need to install the wordpress again.

Problem is that when I try to access my admin page..I get error and lot of pop ups....I am note sure from where the popups come from...may be from host site...they might have settings that if a page is not available they throw popups at the user.
