• Hi, I’ve been hearing a lot about hacking and the potential security issues that can arise from having a WordPress blog. Therefore I’d like some advice on the tools, plug-ins and measures I need to install/undertake in order to keep my site as secure as possible.

One thing I wanted to find out about in particular is backing up. Is it necessary to back up via WP if your hosting company has a back up? I guess your hosting company cant actually replicate your info if it has all been erased. Correct?

    Thanks.

  • “potential security issues” can arise from any piece of software, and in terms of securing WordPress, you just need to know what you’re doing. Don’t install plugins you don’t know, make sure any theme or plugin you develop yourself is secure, etc.

In terms of backup it depends on the host. It’s best to talk with them. But I’d recommend always doing your own backups.

    Thanks Mitchell.

I’m just reading up on this and I’m looking at backing up as well as plug-ins such as bulletproof. There are also a few other things you can do to shut out other vulnerabilities as listed here:

    Any other comments/suggestions/recommendations?
