Just about got my technical skills up to writing a blog....

but it looks a bit boring.... and i wondered how i could make it more interesting?

I know there are such things as plugins + widgets, but (even when i read the desciptions) i'm not clear about what they do, or if i need them!!!

    please could you recommend?

(NB - must be super-easy-and-completely-idiot-proof to install)

    thank you

I like it. It's a simple, contrasting, easy to read theme.

Look, plugins are not medicine against "boring look" (whatever that would be; your blog looks fine).
Plugins extend the functionality if a blog, most of the time you don't even see any "visible" effect of them. You don't need plgins for the sake of having plugins. If you want a special feature that is not included in the core WP... you may want to look around and find out what plugin is offering that desired behaviour of the blog.

    thank you!

just wasn't sure what was 'missing' from the blog and/or if there was anything that could enhance it - either functionally or appearance

+ as i don't understand what most of the plugins do, its hard to know what i'm looking for.....
