Admin, I did edit wp-config-sample.php and renamed it wp-config.php.
(that was an error in my first message – I didn’t mean install-config.php)
I read the threads and followed instructions as per “New users: 5-minute install”.
Same issues here.
I don’t know PHP but I followed the “5 minute install” instructions (several times) to the best of my ability. Tried editing the wp-config file. Still getting No permissions and 404 errors.
I’m teetering between studying the PHP manuals from scratch or giving up on the installation nightmare altogether. Surely there is an easier way to install this program.

Interesting. I got it to work installing just fine using the work-around of renaming wp-config-sample.php and all.
But now that it is working and I can post (and even change template and options and build a .htaccess file and all), it does NOT make archives or subpages for comments (it doesn’t even make Post-IDs – although when I try that post-title thing, I get links to it which then do not work)
. I get a permission 403 error most of the time. So my question is permission-based too. Should I just 777 or whatever all my files and directories?
