What makes a good 404 page? (3 posts)

This morning I realised that I'd never created a 404 error page for my site, and decided that it would probably be a really good idea to whip one up, instead of just the horrible plain text message people would have been getting.

Just curious about what other people think makes a good (helpful) 404 page, what do you have on yours, what do you like on other sites, etc.

I've included a link to the frontpage, a list of site sections (categories) and a list of the most recent articles (posts), as well as a reminder of where the search box is.

    What do you think?

Looks great to me actually, as it directs people to articles as well as categories. How did you put that together? I ask because I'd love to do something similar for my 404 page.

    Good work!
