What is wrong with the comment system? (6 posts)

I'm at the Web site of the Anchoress. I want to leave a comment. I have to be logged in to WordPress to leave a comment.

I try to log in, but I can't. Perhaps my memory is wrong. I reregister, I get the e-mail, I can log in here, but the blog I want to log in on won't let me log in. It doesn't recognize my username.

What is this? Do you have to say the secret word? Pat your head and rub your tummy? How do I satisfy this screen: http://theanchoressonline.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://theanchoressonline.com/2005/12/09/a-round-up-of-narnia-reviews/

  2. Is "the Web site of the Anchoress" your blog? If not, you will have to contact the owner of "the Web site of the Anchoress".

If you are the owner of "the Web site of the Anchoress", then see this:

No, the site is not mine. But the site owner has set up a feature so that you have to log in before you leave a comment. Others can log in, I know, because they leave comments.

Are you telling me that every person who leaves a comment at her site got in touch with her some other way, and she gave them a password? I find that hard to believe.

  4. "the Web site of the Anchoress" has it's own login-to-comment system. That is core feature of WordPress. If you want to comment at "the Web site of the Anchoress", then you must login at "the Web site of the Anchoress". If you want to login at "the Web site of the Anchoress", then you must be a registered user at "the Web site of the Anchoress".

The login and registration system at "the Web site of the Anchoress" has nothing to do with your blog, this forum, or any other website for that matter. If you are having a problem with the login system at "the Web site of the Anchoress", then you must contact the owner of "the Web site of the Anchoress".

When I push the link for the log in, it takes me to a page whose URL I posted before, and will post again: http://theanchoressonline.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://theanchoressonline.com/2005/12/06/late-to-a-tagging-meme/

If you actually look there, you will see a big WordPress logo, and if you run your cursor over it, it turns out it is a link, to WordPress.Org.

So, some questions, please answer yes or no: the Anchoress put up this WordPress logo, and the link to the site, and so on, for the sole purpose of confusing people? There is no connection between her comment log in and word press, she just felt like screwing with people's minds? And WordPress just falsely allows her to get away with pretending that a site that has nothing to do with WordPress is connected to them?

Well, it's a story, but I still find it hard to believe.

No. The Anchoress's blog is powered by WordPress, the blogging platform which is developed here. The login page for that blogging platform includes the WordPress logo, and that logo links here. That is the same for every WordPress blog. If the Anchoress made registration for her blog open to the public, then you would also see a "Register" link on that login form, but the Anchoress has chosen to close registration at this time. So, you will have to find some way to contact the Anchoress to request registration and ask if there is any intent for confusion.

The above statement pretty much answers the rest of your questions.

WordPress is a blogging platform, and we make it available for download and support it out of our "base" here at wordpress.org. We provide the tool. We have no control over how people choose to use it, much in the same way that your vehicle's manufacturer has no control over how you choose to drive it.
