I see often in documentation and in php files term “multiwidget”. What is difference between common widget and so called multiwidget?

  • These days, very little. In older versions of WordPress, you could only use most widgets once with only the odd widget being capable of being used multiple times. In the newer versions of WordPress, you should be able to use all of the default widgets as many times as you like. Widgets provided by plugins, however, may still be either multi or single-use.
