I just installed WP at my host. Open it the first time and got a message: "Your Jetpack is almost ready – Connect to WordPress.com to enable all features." No links to Jetpack page. No explanations why it is good for me to pay $119 and connect to wp.com.
You help is much appreciated in advance.
If you don't want JetPack, uninstall it.
It's a plugin, sort of a suite of different features: WP Stats, Gravatar Hovercards, Twitter Widget, WP.me shortlinks, LaTeX, Sharedaddy, Shortcode Embeds, and After the Deadline.
You shouldn't have to pay $119.

What is jetpack? I tried to search and got over 10,000 results. May be I need it. Just I don't know what it is?
Any links to for a layman?
Much appreciated in advance.

I am stuck with this error:
Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. There are no HTTP transports available which can complete the requested request.
Any answers please.

Maybe your host is blocking some types of outbound traffic. I would ask them they may fix 4 you.
