My friend has asked me to build her site for her. She got her wordpress.org site some time ago. But she knows nothing about computers or websites. I can tell that the files are loaded on her computer, but I don't know where it's being hosted or how to upload to it... and neither does she. At first she thought her son was hosting it for her. He hasn't been much help at all. And now we're thinking that she probably signed up for one of the hosting companies and just doesn't remember. I'd like to be able to upload a template for her from my computer. Any ideas?

Hey its very easy. Do you know the website address. If yes then there is a linux command just type in linux terminal:
$ host <your website address>
or
$ whois <your website address>
I think this can also be used with windows command prompt.

Look up the registrar information here: http://www.whois.net/

Then go to the registrar's home page (e.g. godaddy.com etc) and try and contact support...

Musnake is right, you will get all the information.
I am a complete linux user and I can only tell you about the commands used through linux to get your domain registrar details.
