What does URL Base do – WordPress 2.5

    When you are creating new categories in WordPress 2.5, at the very bottom is this field called “Category Specific Permalinks – URL Base:”

    I am working on a live site right now and I don’t want to test what ever this thing does. Can anyone explain or give me an example of what this does?
