Hi,
I tried searching for this question, nothing turned up. I am simply trying to figure out what THIS support forum (at wordpress.org) runs on. Is this something custom by the wordpress team or is this available for others to also run on their site?
Assuming this is a custom effort, I would appreciate any suggestions on a lightweight forum like this. Every single forum I have found so far has been bloat bloat and more bloat. I want a forum solution for an academic institution and have zero interest in avatars and smileys and a gazillion other nick-nacks that the php based forum era has kicked off. The idea is that only the discussion matters, so the simpler and less cluttered and clunky the forum, the better.
Thanks!

Hmm, is this by any chance bbpress?! Won't I feel stupid if this is bbpress!

I guess this is indeed bbpress. I was given some very bad advice by somebody who said bbpress is hard to install and integrate! I never looked at it, and finally got to it after looking at every other forum out there. While I admit it is not the easiest to setup, requiring some reading and searching to get it integrated well, it does the job perfectly! And coupled with this plugin, it is exactly what the doctor ordered!
Great job by the BBPress guys and Ivan Babrou, who wrote that plugin. Thanks for all your hard work guys!
This is bbPress - the stand alone version.
Please note that bbPress has a PLUGIN version as well.

Thanks for the reply Ipstenu. For some reason, the plugin version installed but did not seem to work after that for me. I did the standalone version and BB-WP integration and it works like a charm now.
One difference I do notice now is this editor and the subscribe topic option under this. What plugins are being used for these?
Both are home grown and not currently released.

oh well ......... hopefully its on the changelog for the next version! I guess I should stop posting about bbpress here and move to the bbpress.org support forum for further discussion. Thanks for your help.
